Free Recovery Data Software

July 1st, 2009

frontscrThe best way to recover from unexpected data loss is to be properly prepared. Check out the couple options below that can help you out of pickle. Of course backing up your data in the first place is the best option.

1. Recuva is a freeware Windows utility to restore files that have been accidentally deleted from your computer. This includes files emptied from the Recycle bin as well as images and other files that have been deleted by user error from digital camera memory cards or MP3 players. It will even bring back files that have been deleted by bugs, crashes and viruses!

2. TestDisk is a powerful free data recovery software! It was primarily designed to help recover lost partitions and/or make non-booting disks bootable again when these symptoms are caused by faulty software, certain types of viruses or human error (such as accidentally deleting a Partition Table). Partition table recovery using TestDisk is really easy.

3. PhotoRec is file data recovery software designed to recover lost files including video, documents and archives from Hard Disks and CDRom and lost pictures (thus, its ‘Photo Recovery’ name) from digital camera memory. PhotoRec ignores the filesystem and goes after the underlying data, so it will still work even if your media’s filesystem has been severely damaged or re-formatted.

Also the one of the benefits of these players is that you don’t need to install those codecs or codec packs to get them to play files as it’s all built in to the software. So check them both out.

June 16th, 2009

kompozerDon’t know how to code web pages and don’t want to spend a fortune on expensive programs like Go Live. Don’t sweat it there are always free alternatives to those expensive programs. Here are a couple examples to get you started.

Amaya – Amaya is unique in several ways, one of which is the ability to edit multiple documents simultaneously on the web. This is a great feature for webmasters; Amaya allows the user to browse and make web pages
from scratch or copy and paste content from existing sources. Editing and browsing are combined in a single tool. It has a collaborative annotation application that lets you add comments or remarks to any web document or add them to a part of the document that you select.

KompoZer – One of the most important features is still that editing take place in WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) mode allowing you full control of layout as you work with your web design.

These two programs should get you started. Good luck and happy web designing.
