Turn Off XP Security Center Alerts

July 9th, 2009

XPEveryone who has used xp knows what I’m talking about. It’s the annoying little bubble that pops up in the bottom right corner telling you that your computer is at risk because it doesn’t recognize your anti-virus program. Well here’s how to turn that off.

* Open the Control Panel folder
* Open the Security Center control panel
* In the left pane, click the link labeled “Change the way Security Center alerts me”
* Uncheck the item(s) that it’s complaining about (i.e.: firewall, automatic updates, or virus protection)
* Press the OK button.

Remove Large Attachments Without Deleting Message

July 7th, 2009

Outlook-2007Do you find that sometimes your inbox is full of large mail messages because of the attachments. Usually you don’t delete the message because of mail message itself. Well why not save the attachment then delete it keeping the message intact.  It’s an easy tip but a useful one.

Step 1. Right click the email attachment that you want to get rid of and choose “Save As”.

If there are two or more attachments in the messages, go to File -> Save Attachments -> Save All Attachments to create a copy on the hard drive in one go.

Step 2. Right click again and select the “Remove” option this time.

DONE AND DONE.

cross-browser-compatibilityOne of the most important things to do when your making a website is to check to see if displays correctly in all browsers.  Browser Shots is a great website that will do this  and will give you screen shots for you to compare to see if your website looks similar across all browsers.

Check browsershots.org to test your pages.

Have a Computer Then Why Pay For Cable

June 12th, 2009

strangebrewIt’s a little harder for us Canadians to get our favorite TV shows on the internet compared to our neighbours to the south but that doesn’t mean we don’t have some options when it comes to online tv. All major Canadian networks stream tv shows from there website. Below is a list of sites you can get your free tv fix on without having to do a lot of searching around.

CTV - Lots of Shows like The Colbert Report, The Daily Show, Degrassi: The Next Generation, Desperate Housewives, Fringe, Gossip Girl, Grey’s Anatomy, Lost

CTV HD – CTV also offers some shows in HD which is great but your limited to 3 shows since this is in beta.

Global – Global has a dozen of shows were you can watch full episodes like 90210, The Office, 24, Heroes, House, Bones, Days of our Lives

City TV – Watch a couple shows like Chuck and Ugly Betty

Now there are more places to stream online content from like the comedy network or discovery channel but most of these are owned by ctv so you can see all that stuff from there site.

Also sometime in the near future Canada should have access to view video from Hulu.com which has a ton of shows. But until then enjoy.
